The Design Museum of Chicago invited me – alongside a brilliant group of artists and designers – to contribute to “Great Ideas of Humanity,” a series that brings powerful thoughts to life through visual form. I've chosen a quote by Willa Cather: “There are only two or three human stories, and they go on repeating themselves as fiercely as if they had never happened before; like the larks in this country, that have been singing the same five notes over for thousands of years.” Willa Cather compares human stories to birdsong — repeating, limited, yet endlessly varied. This poster sets her words in a spiral, echoing the upward flight of a lark.
